Growing up with a series, especially a fantasy can be quite an intimate experience. Gratifying because of the spectacular adventures it unfolds, changing its course through the years, as well as heartbreaking for it's not permanent. After all, what can be more emotional than seeing the improbable turn true even if it's just a timeless tale of good vs evil told with a bright new perspective in a fictional universe around ingenious characters and creatures?Read full review4.0

The latest Harry Potter releases to both excitement and despair. While the hoots and shouts even before the movie begins are enough to tell how exhilarated fans are to reunite with their wizard hero, the fact that deep down they are sad that the franchise will end with just one more movie isn’t hard to gauge. But the tears and fears vanish as the movie opens and Mad eye and his entourage come to rescue Potter boy.Read full review3.5

It's an extended last hurrah. Nine years (and six blockbusters) after they enrolled at the medieval school of magic and witchcraft, the adventures of everyone's favourite young wizards draw toward a cliffhanger climax. Filmed back-to-back, the final volume of JK Rowling's saga has been split into two films with Part 2 slated for release in July 2011. Meanwhile, a lot has changed for Harry Potter's seventh go-round. Our little big heroes are not going off to schoolRead full review3.5

Spot the one big difference. Hogwart's gone. Yes, the first part of the last HP film does have the dearly beloved trio -- Harry, Hermione, Ron -- testing their skills, but not in the fondly familiar environs of Hogwarts. The comfort zone's gone and with it have vanished most of the familiar fraternity. Even Ginny Weasley gets to play a two-minute scene and so does Hagrid and Snape. Vile Voldermort isn't there for too long too, although his evil threatensRead full review3.5

This film is, by far, the most adult of the Harry Potter series and, perforce, mature, deeper and far more engaging than the ones that came before it. Unlike the earlier installments of the franchise, The Deathly Hallows directed by David Yates with screenplay by Steve Kloves based on the novel by JK Rowling, is consciously targeted at a teen and above audience. The series is finally nearingan end and this film is one half of the planned finaleRead full review3.5

Of all the Harry Potter films which have been released so far, this one perhaps holds the greatest test for Pottermania. It’s been three years since the last book came out and a year since the film, Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince, and we have come to know Radcliffe, Watson and Grint as more than Harry, Hermione and Ron. Moreover, it splits the grand finale of one of publishing history’s most magnificent successes into two, leaving this first partRead full review3.0

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1 is a curious film. Long stretches in it are a dull slog but many sequences are also gripping and surprisingly emotional. Director David Yates and writer Steve Kloves have split JK Rowling’s sprawling and intricate last book into two films. So this one has no discernable narrative arc or climax and feels instead like a set-up. It’s all the information you need to see the next film, which will give us the finalRead full reviewNR
