Deadly dives into the oceans, a freaky thunderstorm high up in the sky, a flight on a funky helicopter gone wrong, gold showers from the sky, big butterflies, rides on giant honey bees, elephants the size of pets, giant lizards laying eggs that look like rocks.... In short, a dazzling, visual treat. Now that's one reason why Journey 2: The Mysterious Island is nothing less than a joyride, just in case you could not get enough from its 2008 prequel Journey to the Centre of the Earth

As kiddie-friendly family films go, 'Journey 2: The Mysterious Island' is a harmless, breezy adventure that offers likeable characters and some exciting 3D set-pieces. Just don't go in expecting more. Journey 2: The Mysterious Island is an uneven, painfully silly, yet amiable mess that has more adventurous intentions than actual assets. The film is supposed to be a fun entertainer but it does not have, despite its pretty look, an interesting story to really take off as a 21st century family flick

Disappointing both on its terms and as an adaptation of Jules Verne's 1874 novel, this obligatory sequel to Journey to the Center of the Earth (2008) falls flat despite the domination of 3D effects. The quirkily-titled Journey 2:… transports a rebellious teenager (Hutcherson, reprising his role from the original) to the titular island to find his long-lost grandfather and fellow Vernian (Michael Caine, merely pocketing a hefty paycheck). An overwhelming feeling
