There have been many films on honour killings but Land Gold Women works in a special way. Primarily because there is a deep-rooted sense of realism to it which make the events even more distasteful and heart rending. The fact that the Muslim family seems as normal as any other family and displays no signs of fanaticism in the beginning works in favour of it. The father and daughter relationship is beautiful with the duo displaying a rare closeness and the father

A woman was and still is a man’s most precious possession,' exclaims a British-Pakistani attorney, unwilling to accept her white colleague’s reasoning that culture and religion could be drivers for a man to kill his own daughter to protect his 'honour.' Cut to a neighbourhood in Birmingham. Nazir Khan (Narinder Samra) is a soft-spoken, family man. Land Gold Women stands as the reverse translation to the Urdu phrase Zan Zar Zameen (or its Hindi equivalent Jar Joru Jameen) that has, for ages, been attributed as the root cause for all human problems. Interestingly the film symbolizes the irony on how this doctrine instigates clash of opinions and subsequently also comes to the rescue of its fanatic believers. The film opens in present day London where an Indian Muslim family has been living for years

Sincere intentions do not a good film make. This is a line every film student should drill into their heads before they set out to make their first feature. No doubt that Hari -- a London Film School grad who makes her debut with Land Gold Women -- is probably aware of this. It shows, in bits in pieces, in this heavy-handed drama (a 2010 National Award winner) about multiculturalism and morality, that Hari set out to make a very good film. The characterisation is bang on
