Maa 1934

Maa is a 1934 Indian Bengali drama,family film released on 1934. The film is directed by Prafulla Ghosh.

Mrityunjoy Basu was a famous advocate of Bhagalpur. His only son Arabinda was studying in a college at Calcutta. One day with out taking any permission of his father he married a village girl Manorama. Every body came to know about this secret marriage. On the request of Arabinda's mother the members of the family accepted Manorama. Manorama got her mother-in-law's affection, sister-in-law's friendship, husband's love but did not get father-in-law, Mrityunjoy Basu's heart. The reason was Manorama's father could not fulfill the dowry amount which he has asked for. So Mrityunjoy discovered Manorama and ordered Arabinda not to get in touch with her family. Arabinda had no guts to disobey his father. So he abandoned pregnent Manorama and married Brajorani, daughter of his father's friend. One day Manorama gave birth to a son. His name was Ajit. When he grew up he wrote a letter to his father Arabinda with a request to pay his college fees, but Arabinda didn't reply back. But Arabinda's friend Neeti helped him to continue his studies in Calcutta College. Manorama was then in death bed. Ajit did not come to see Manorama, even after repeated request from Manorama. Instead he met his father Arabinda in their Ballygunge palace. At last when Ajit came back home Manorama was about to die. Arabinda was also ill for a long time. Brajorani could understand that Arabinda's illness was because of his separation from Manorama. She rushed to Manorama's house to bring her back. But when she reached Manorama's house she found that she was unconscious and Ajit was crying. When Manorama's senses retuned she handed over the responsibility of Ajit to Brajorani and asked Ajit to call Brajorani 'mother', and then she died.
