Tanaya 1983

Tanaya is a 1983 Indian Bengali drama film released on 1983. The film is directed by Narayan Chakraborty.

Tanaya portrays the strange journey of a simple town girl who travels through the highs and lows of life. Promita is an innocent, simple rural belle who lives with her parents. She loves Debopriyo who leaves Promita promising that he would come back and marry her. But after a couple of months Promita and her family recieves the shocking news that Debopriyo has married a girl in Kolkata for money and a secure future. Promita comes to Kolkata to search for a good job and she gets a job in a managerial post in one of the Kolkata's top busniess firms. She starts to reside in a hostel at Richie Road with her best friend Madhobi and some other friends. Madhabi meanwhile is in love with Sunil, a debouch and bungled person. He makes Madhabi drink,smoke and she has a physical relationship with him, but whenever Madhabi raises the topic of marriage he always ignores it. Both Madhabi and Promita become highly suspicious about the behaviour of Sunil. In the meantime Promita meets the attractive and charming Indian officer in her company, Mr. Tony Mayer's in whom she finds solace. Madhabi recieves another shock when she finds that her ex-boy friend Debopriyo was a employee of the same respective company. Around this time, the chairman of the company orders an investigation into corruption within the organisational ranks and gives the responsibility to Tony and Promita. Promita finds that Debopriyo was one of the guilty. She takes initiatives to take drastic measures aainst Debopriyo but when his wife comes and begs for mercy she decides not to coerce any more for his judgement. Tony also supports her decision. In the mean while Tony continues to have a persistent eye problem that begins to damage his eyes. In the end Sunil, the pervert betrays Madhabi after making her pregnent. When Promita goes to revolt against this fascist attitude, the beast pounces on her and tries to assault her physically. In self defence Promita points a broken piece of glass at him, unfortunately it plunges into Sunil's heart and he dies. Madhabi enters Sunil's house at that moment and watcing the scene she assumes Promita is a murderer. She loses her mental balance.Promita is sentenced to imprisonment for 5 years. After 5 years, when she reunites with her love Tony, he has turned completely blind. But they take an oath to overcome hurdles through courage, integrity and love.
