Woody Allen's Vicky Cristina Barcelona is a likeable enough romantic-comedy filmed in the gorgeous Spanish city referred to in the movie's title. Rebecca Hall stars as the prudish Vicky, and Scarlett Johansson as her saucy best friend Cristina. The girls head to Barcelona for the summer, where they're approached by hunky Spanish artist Juan Antonio (played by Javier Bardem) who announces his desire to whisk them off for a weekend

Woody Allen uses sexual attraction to define this dramedy about two young American tourists Vicky (Rebecca Hall) and Cristina (Scarlett Johansson) in Spain who fall for the same guy, a flamboyant artist Juan Antonio (Javier Bardem) - who also happens to have an on-again off-again relationship with his ex-wife Maria Elena (Penelope Cruz). There are no surprises here though. The first half of the film is sedate and moves along in contemplative mode until the entry of Maria

Two girls head out on an overseas vacation together and... we've heard this plotline before haven't we? Of course we have! No doubt about it. The last time we watched this premise lead into something, the girls were American, the foreign city was Paris and when all was said and done we learnt that Liam Neeson could be a very convincing action hero. In Vicky Cristina Barcelona however, there are no action heroes - at least not of the kicking and punching variety.
