She is an Indian actress. She is a Bengali actress and she is a politician too. She was born on 5 October 1968. She is serving in the Indian Parliament. She was born to Shailen and Nilima Roy. She was born in Agarpara. She completed her schooling from Madhyamik from Sarojini High School in 1985 and later attended Jogamaya Devi College, a women's college affiliated to the University of Calcutta. She is a versatile actress, director and teacher of acting in the Bengali language film industry as well as an author of poetry in Bengali. She made her debut with the movie Atanka, directed by Tapan Sinha, which was released in 1986. She participated in the Lok Sabha election. She won the election on a Trinamool Congress ticket from the Birbhum constituency of West Bengal in 2009. She won the Bengali Film Journalists' Award for best supporting actress for the film Debipaksha in 2005. While she is not working, she teaches at Satabdi Foundation or spends time with her son Samoraj Banerjee (Tozo), daughter Samiyana Banerjee (zumi) and husband Mrigank Banerjee, Executive manager of Satabdi Roy Foundation.
