She was given the Padma Shri award. She was born in Dinajpur (British India). She was born to her father Ashutosh Bhaduri and mother was Shailabala Debi. She completed her matriculation from Pyaricharan School and got admission in Ashutosh College. She first acted in her brother’s play Agun (Fire) in 1943. She was also a part of Ritwik Ghatak's last film, Jukti Takko Aar Gappo (1974).
